A wonderfully relaxing stay is guaranteed at Golden Stone Country Retreat. Tre provided really helpful and timely information beforehand and we felt really well looked after. We really appreciated the attention to detail and environmentally friendly touches. Everything is of great quality and the local village is charming, with some great walking opportunities. I’m sure we’ll be back … if Tre will have us!

Fabulous little converted barn which is in a very tranquil small village just outside of Cirencester. The delights of the Cotswolds are very accessible and we had a lovely time visiting the picturesque villages of Bibury, Burford and Bourton on the Water which are all within 20-30 mins drive. Cirencester is also a lovely little market town with lots of shops, cafes and restaurants. Would also recommend Cotswold Water Park (only 15 mins drive away) with lots of lovely lakes, trails and biking/water sports. The Falcon Inn in Poulton (5 mins drive or 30 mins walk) is an absolute must for dining out – a real gem of a pub with amazing food and service! There is a farm shop close by with lots of delightful offerings too. The accommodation was very cosy, clean and we loved the decor and furnishings! Tre and her family made us feel very welcome and there was some lovely fresh bread, milk and jam from the local farmhouse when we arrived which was a nice touch. There is a nice patio area to sit out and eat/drink in evenings enjoy the peaceful countryside. Overall would highly recommend this place for those wanting to enjoy tranquil surroundings in the Cotswolds!

The Experience
We want to take care of our beautiful planet so we also provide a compost bucket and recycling bin, eco-friendly cleaning products, natural toiletries in refillable containers and 100% recycled toilet paper. We aim to save water by having our grey water drain into a outdoor water butt. This means our kitchen sink waste water gets re-used to water the garden!
All bedding, including pillows, towels and a hair dryer are provided for you. The desk area has easily accessible plug sockets for chargers and we have a strong fibre internet connection. There is underfloor heating throughout which can adjusted easily.
The Neighbourhood
The Granary lies within the picturesque stone-built village of Ampney St. Mary which boasts two working farms. Quaint golden stone cottages are surrounded by quintessential cotswolds dry stone walls dividing rolling hills and farmland. An abundance of scenic walks and cycle routes to be explored on the doorstep and in the nearby designated area of outstanding natural beauty.
The main house is a former granary and the outhouse (now the studio) was originally used to store farm equipment. Both are grade 2 curtilage listed buildings dating from the late 1700’s and converted to residential dwellings in 2018. The property is one of three new homes created from the barns and outbuildings of the original grade 2 listed manor farmyard.
You’ll know you’ve found us when you see the classic red telephone box (which is actually the village library and defibrillator!) just outside our driveway.

“This fully detached little barn is immersed in the middle of the most stunning landscape in the Cotwold with only an 8 minute drive to the Cotwolds lakes. A modern but cosy sparkling gem of a space with such a lovely host that provided special touches that made the stay even more special. It was so beautiful I extended my stay twice!”

The Local Area
Just over a mile away, in neighbouring Poulton, The Falcon Inn is a stylish pub/restaurant offering impressive lunch and evening menus. A much wider selection can be found in the near by market town of Cirencester, just four miles away.
Known as “The Capital of the Cotswolds” the Roman town of Cirencester is host to an Amphitheatre and Corinium. In the centre you’ll find a cathedral-like church alongside a pretty cobbled market square, popular high street shops as well as plenty of chic independent coffee shops and restaurants. There’s also a variety of supermarkets should you wish to stock up on supplies for your stay.
We also have a list of personally recommended local gastro pubs, tucked away in stunning Cotswolds villages, all within a 10 miles radius.
